The department was established in October 1987 as a result of the merger of the departments "Agricultural Reclamation" and "Hydraulic Structures". The Department "Agricultural Reclamation" was organized on December 20, 1972. Its first head was Rylov Valery Nikolayevich, Candidate of Agricultural sciences, associate professor, who worked from 1972 to 1978. In 1978-1988, Valuev Vladimir Egorovich, Candidate of Engineering sciences, assistant professor, worked as the Head of the department. The Department of Hydraulic Structures was established in 1976. The first head from 1976 to 1982 was Shvedovsky Petr Vladimirovich, Candidate of Engineering sciences, now a professor, who was elected by competition. From 1982 to 1985, Vysotsky Oleg Arsentievich, Candidate of Engineering Sciences, associate professor worked as the head of the department.
Since 1985, Vodchits Nikolai Nikolayevich, Candidate of Engineering Sciences, associate professor was selected as the Head of the department "Hydraulic Structures" by competition. Since October 1988 headed the Department "Agricultural Hydraulic Reclamation", formed in 1987 as a result of the merger of the two above-mentioned departments.
Since 2014 the department is headed by Meshik Oleg Pavlovich, Candidate, senior lecturer.
The educational process of the department is provided by 19 people. Of these, 15 are from the teaching staff and 4 are from the support staff of the department. 13 workers of the department graduated Brest State Technical University at different times.

The main problems which the department faces are:
- enhance the efficiency of land reclamation on the basis of improving systems and methods for regulating the water regime of soils, methods of rational management of land reclamation systems and facilities, taking into account the requirements for environmental protection;
- development and implementation of measures aimed at the rational use of natural resources, effective protection of the environment;
- researches of climate variations and the development of measures to adapt the Belarusian economy to possible negative climatic impacts;
- problems of the hydrological regime of rivers and lakes of Belarus.
